Limbic system

The amygdala, hippocampus and hypothalamus are the three major structures which form the limbic system. The limbic system is a term that refers to this group of structures in the brain which are collectively involved in behavioural and emotional responses, particularly survival behaviours such as feeding, reproduction, caring for offspring, and fight or flight responses. It is layered over the reptilian brain, and underneath the neocortex but is highly interconnected with both. Queensland Brain Institute. (n.d.). The limbic system.
